Introducing Lekkalu: A Free, Private Personal Finance App

Welcome to Lekkalu
Lekkalu is a free personal finance app for people getting serious about money. You log what you earn and spend by hand, about a minute a day, and that small habit is what actually teaches you how your money works. Everything you enter stays encrypted on your device.
In a world where every finance app seems to collect and monetize your data, Lekkalu takes a different approach: zero-knowledge architecture.
What zero-knowledge means here
Zero-knowledge means we literally cannot access your financial data, even if we wanted to.
Encrypted on your device
Every transaction, account, budget, and goal is encrypted with AES-256 on your device before it is stored. Your data lives in your browser’s local database, not on a server.
What the server actually holds
Your login and the wrapped key material that lets you recover access. It cannot decrypt your financial data. If you ever forget your password, a recovery code you save during setup lets you regain access, and even that happens on your device.
What that protects you from
Neither us nor anyone can:
- Read your transactions or account balances
- Sell your data to advertisers
- Hand your data over to anyone else
- Leak your financial information in a server breach, because it is not on a server
What you can track
- Transactions: income, expenses, and transfers, with recurring support and CSV import and export
- Budgets: monthly budgets by category that roll over month to month
- Accounts: bank accounts, credit cards, and cash
- Goals: save for the vacation, the car, or the emergency fund
- Investments: by-hand tracking for up to 100 stocks and mutual funds, no brokerage login needed
- Reminders: never miss a recurring bill or payment
Built around a daily habit
Logging by hand only works if you actually do it. Lekkalu keeps you consistent with daily streaks, coins, and achievements. About a minute a day is the whole workout.
Works offline
Lekkalu is a Progressive Web App with all data stored locally, so it works even without internet. Log transactions on a flight or in the subway; your data is always with you. And since your data lives on your device, full backup export and import is built in.
Multi-currency support
Track accounts in different currencies with automatic exchange rate conversion. Useful if you earn, spend, or invest across borders.
How to get started
- Open the app: go to app.lekkalu.app. I recommend installing it on your phone, the app shows you how on first visit.
- Create an account: email and password, or sign in with Google. No name, phone, or address required.
- Log your first transaction and set up your accounts, budgets, and goals.
No credit card, no subscription, no data mining, and no linking your bank.
What’s next
The core app is free forever, and nothing that is free today will ever move behind a paywall. A paid Pro tier with optional extras is planned to keep the project sustainable, and I keep improving the core based on user feedback.
